Subway in BA

Seems like the subway is a great and inexpensive way to see BA and its major attrations.
Is it safe? Can you buy a weekly pass?
We are a 55+ couple and most likely would not be riding late at night. Thanks for any and/all information.

I'd say it's safe, with the normal precautions suggested for any large town.

I find it suffocatingly warm, at this time of the year, however.

Yes, you can buy multiple-trip passes.

Take a look at: http://www.metrovias.com.ar/

Have a great time in our town, kwood1955

We find taking the Collectivos and Taxis much more satisfactory, in general, while in Buenos Aires.

The Subtes do not go everywhere and are, as above, very hot if you are visiting in the summer months. During rush hours, subways in most large cities make one a bit more pick-pocket vulnerable than busses - though if prepared and concientious about following traveler's advice, usually perfectly fine.

The 'A' line is an interesting train to ride and to have a Subte experience; and then you could decide if that is your preferred mode of transport. And, if you are able, do not forget that walking is a wonderful way to see much of the city.

I hope you have a wonderful visit,

kwood1955,

we used the subway during our BA sojourn this year. It was safe and inexpensive although very crowded during peak time. We found that if we waited until 10.15 am there were plenty of seats available.

Our guide Gabriel showed us how to use the subway on our half day tour with him, after which he drew a walking map for us so that we could explore BA independently. We used the map in conjunction with the subway. Gabriel may be contacted at [email protected].

Enjoy BA,

Pol

We have lived in BA for almost 4 years now and took the Subte once, with a friend. It is just so cheap and easy to flag a taxi down in the street .. I avoid the Collectivo/ buses but many brave people manage well with them .. You will also find that you will end up walking miles, not even meaning too, it is fun to walk here.. you see so much more.
