Stray Dogs?

This may seem an unusual question, but are there a lot of neglected, stray dogs in Cusco and/or Sacred Valley?

If there are, is there a way for a tourist to help them - for example, buying kibble or .....

It will break my heart to see starving or injured animals

Best is to support local groups. I just googled "dog shelter rescue cusco" and there are many. Check those out.

We stayed in Cusco and the Sacred Valley for some time and whilst taking language lessons and doing some voluntary work and don't recall stray dogs being an issue. No idea what "kibble" is ( some sort of food?) or whether dogs might appreciate it! But I would not attempt to feed street dogs which is like to cause more problems than it solves.

Far better, a NFZ suggests to see out one of the many the "charities" ngo etc. operating in the region.

Personally if would be more inclined to offer help to the many deprived children in the sacred valley. Many years ago did some work with http://www.livingheartperu.org (they run the famous Hearts Cafe in Ollantaytambo) who do some great work.

Thanks for replies. Yes, I will check out the local rescues. I had not thought of that! Kibble is just another name for dry dog food,

Seemed to me the dog issue in Peru is not nearly as bad as that in Chile and Argentina! Often "outdoor dogs" have people who look after them, they just live outside.
