"Secret" Restaurants in Buenos Aires

Just stumbled across this article online. May be of interest for people looking for something a little different:

Thank you, Crellston!

You forgot to mention our favorite: Fervor! Just kidding.

Do you expect to be back any time soon?

If so, you can be my guest for a large egg salad at Fervor. LOL!!

Keep up the good work and I'll be pleased to nominate you for the vacant title of Fodor's BA destination expert.

Ooops, I'm sorry, I must be getting old. Just remembered they don't have that kind of thing here. LOL!!!

So what do people think about these type of places? I've read a lot about Saltshaker, but not so much on the others.

Scarlett Nov 12th, 2010 05:38 AM

yestravel, I read reviews of both and Diego gets almost always rave reviews and Casa Saltshaker has been around for a long time and seems to get consistently good reviews.
The one complaint that seems to be the same for them both is that the other diners are Americans.
So I guess if you want an all Argentine experience, go to any restaurant in Buenos Aires, if you want to see what the closed door experience is like, with mostly English speakers, there are those too.
Homework seems to be the key to having a good experience.

Scarlett --thanks. what are your current fav restaurants? I think I followed a couple of your recs on previous trips and they were great.

saltshaker Nov 12th, 2010 06:48 PM

Scarlett, I wouldn't say that all the other diners are Americans by a long shot. English speaking, yes, but from all over - and often English is the second language, but yes, the majority of conversation is in English.

Oh, and the Guardian's written us up in another article, and gave me a column to write about the whole "phenomenon", so I don't mind that they gave a boost to my friends in the other spots!

You are too kind avrooster. However, given the amount of coverage the egg salad incident has received on this forum, it hardly qualifies as a "secret" restaurant!

As for when we will be back, we are currently hoping to buy a guesthouse we have found in this country and are already planning our first return trip to Argentina, hopefully at the beginning of 2012. By this time we are hoping that Avrooster's secret chicken restaurant will be open for business!! If not, I will certainly take you up on your offer of an egg salad at Fervour...

I DO have a "secret" restaurant, Crellston, which drdawggy (the greatest poster ever) and other prominent forum members have honored with their presence.

As THE leading DE candidate, you will certainly be invited, when you return to Argentina.

We serve the best barbecue in town, according to the trip reports I have read. Chicken is served only upon special request.

Or maybe it's not THAT good, but the fact that it's free makes it seem good? LOL!!!

What have I missed out on???

avrooster Nov 15th, 2010 10:38 AM

I apologize for the somewhat "private jokes", yestravel.

If you wish, e-mail to me albertovgalloATyahoo.com with your question, indicating your message is from "yestravel".
