Santiago - Luxury ?
After two months of adventure and ambitous travel across the northern hemisphere in summer we are heading back to Australia via Santiago in winter. We will be tired, suffering from a move from summer to a cold mid winter and looking forward to a splurge. What are the best 4-5 star hotels and restaurants to consider ? Thanks for your help.

Santiago
Hotels- There is a Ritz-Carlton and a new W is opening soon. Dining- Puerto Fuy,Astrid y Gaston, Nolita, Europeo, El Huerto Look at Fodor's Destinations on this website to help you get started with your planning. |
Thank you. Are there any 4-5 stars that are more European in style ? Any new restaurants that have appeared in recent years ?

If you want the big beds you will have to go with one of the international chains. I would say Hyatt, San Cristobal Tower, Ritz Carlton, Marriot. Then there are the Plaza El Bosque Suites, Santiago Park Plaza, Atton El Bosque, which are more centrally placed in Providencia and very good hotels with good restaurants. The Orly is small, very good service and more European. It has fewer services than a larger hotel.
Newest restaurant is Gaston Acurio's "La Mar", Peruvian. Many restaurants have moved to the Costanera Nueva area in Vitacura and El Bosque, once a good string of restaurants, has very few choices now. |
That is a very helpful reply. Thank you Huentetu

Santiago is not known for great hotels, unfortunately, and there's not much outside the corporate chains. Here's a link to some other reviews of the three best ones, but after that it's the Park Hyatt or new W when it opens. Mid-June I think.

There seem to be enough hotels to choose from and many offer king size beds and a good standard for the price. We will have been traveling in the summer of the northern hemisphere in July and will be very tired and into mid winter when we arrive in Santiago prior to the last leg home. The only other objective is that we find the best location. In Buenos Aires we enjoyed Recoleta district, so in Santiago our aim is to find similar. I also hope we can find a Chilean steakhouse as good as a few we found in Buenos Aires.

Online rate for San Cristobal Tower was good so I locked it in on a flexible basis.Hopefully it is well located.

We have locked into San Cristobal where we received a good flewxible promotional rate. Are we in a good are ? Do you have any local restaurant and shopping recommendations ? Thanks for your help.

The hotel is on the other side of the river from Providencia with its back to San Cristobal hill. Simply crossing the river takes you to the heart of Providencia. Taxi back at night.

Thank you Huentetu.Hope we have chosen the best place. It seems to be highly recommended by most guides and by votes.
