Rio Apartment Location Question

I'm looking at renting an apartment in Rio on Ave Atlantica between post 5 and 6 for our vacation. Is this a good location as far as safety is concerned? Thanks for your help.

I looked at a map and that appears to be near the Forte de Copacabana - correct? If so we stayed two blocks from there in an apartment on Rua Raul Pompeia. I'm not an expert on Rio but based on our 5 nights there we loved the area and felt safe during the day and night (using savvy traveler techniques of course).

We had a great time in Rio - and all of Brazil for that matter!

Thank you, Elizabeth! I didn't see a trip report by you out there. Any tips you would care to share?

My friends used to have an apartment in those blocks of Av. Atlantica between the two postos.
There is an interesting early morning fish market over by the fort. The cafe in the fort is a branch of the charming Confeitaria Colombo downtown.
You can walk to Ipanema via Arpoador. The sunset from the Arpoador rocks are an attraction.
The metro stops are convenient.
There are some bars/restaurants on that street along the waterfront, and the kiosks on the sidewalk next to the sand, but most of the restaurants, shops, etc are on NS de Copacabana, two blocks back from the beach. There's a lot of traffic, and an ugly gas station in the median between the buildings and beach, in those blocks of Av. Atlantica, but it's not as noisy as NS de Copacabana.
It's a good part of the neighborhood, but be vigilant on quiet side streets after dark, and generally, all over the city, remain aware of your surroundings and the people around you.
