Returning to U.S. from Mendoza via Santiago
One hour and 50 minutes to connect in Santiago:
Arriving Santiago from Mendoza on LAN, returning to U.S. on American Airlines.
How difficult a transfer is this?
Any suggestions or information would be most appreciated.

It depends on a couple of things. First, whether you will be able to check in for your AA flight before getting to Santiago, which seems doubtful. Second (and related), whether you can check in your luggage before getting to Santiago, which is also doubtful. Because of that, i would recommend against.
One thing you may want to check is whether your AA flight is code-shared with LAN. If it is, and if you haven't booked yet, you may want to book the LAN flight instead of the AA flight, so that you at least have the "possibility" of checking in and checking bags ahead of time.
In January we flew from Ushuaia to Santiago on LAN, and then from Santiago to Los Angeles on LAN, and could not check in ahead of time. One ticket was booked with points, however, so we might have had a better shot had they both been booked through LAN.com

I just came back from Argentina via Mendoza and Santiago less than 2 weeks ago.
The correct phrase is plenty o' time to make the connection.
LAN and AA are almost next to each other. Their Premium Lounges are right next to each other.
We even boarded the Mendoza plane and then had to unboard the plane as the government wanted to perform a 'safety check'. This cut our time down by an hour and we still were able to make the connection, and be one of the first persons on board.
One of our fellow Mendoza travelers ended up with a 20 minute connection in Mendoza and managed to make her flight to Miami, as we greeted her in Miami at the baggage claim.
Because LAN and AA are One World partners, LAN will put all the connecting baggage stops on your bag. They even put a "conexion" tag to make sure it gets to AA. There was no baggage problems whatsoever.
