Restaurant Recommendations in Palermo and other areas
 

Hi

We will be staying in Palermo Alto for about 2 weeks where I have rented an apartment

I would love to have some recommendations for some restaurants that people have loved-we also love to eat at the places that the locals frequent -and tourists do not necessarily know about!

Not crazy about French food

All the food we had in Buenos Aires (in fact all of Argentina) was very good. We also stayed in Palermo and found many good places to eat. Our favorites were:

Bar Uriate (1572 Uriarte, Palermo Soho) - more "hip"design and food, but we loved it so much we ate here twice.

La Cabrera (JA Cabrera 5099/corner of Thames, Palermo Soho) - I know SUPER touristy, and everyone talks about it, I wasn't expecting much, but have to say the food was EXCELLENT! Just be sure and make a reservation so you don't have to wait in line.

La Cupertina(Cabrera 5296/corner GodoyCruz, Palermo Soho) - loved this small local restaurant who made THE best empanadas and fabulous desserts. We ate here three times.

La Payuca has several outlets in the city and we ate there many times. Great bife de chorizo! Also, Siga la Vaca in Puerto Madero is an " all you can eat" place in Puerto Madero. Great value and it provides and opportunity to sample just about very part of the cow you can think of ( and a few you haven't !) - great value for money but don't eat breakfast before you go..

Thanks JGG for linking to your trip report which is fantastic. My husband and I are going to Argentina in November and staying in Buenos Aires at Miravida Soho, so your restaurant tips are perfect.

Oh, Crellston, sorry to say La Payuca (both in Palermo)which we really liked on our first stays in BsAs, were both very mediocre on our last tries there. I have heard from others that this may be because it is so difficult to find grass fed beef, instead of feedlot beef, in Buenos Aires these days. So, it may just be hit or miss - and we missed on La Payuca in recent years. :-(

Sad to say that last year we went to have the wonderful empanadas at La CUpertina and it was no longer in business. It look like they were renovating for a club to move in.

Marine, that's a shame about La Payuca! One of my lasting memories of BA was ordering a massive Bife de Chorizo there to share with my wife and watching in amazement as the waiter cut it in half - with a spoon!!!

If the argentine farmers are moving away from grass fed beef then that will be a tragedy as the beef in Argentina was the best I have tasted anywhere (apart may be from the Wagyu beef in Japan.

One restaurant, I forgot to mention was Fervour, where Avrooster kindly took us when we were in town. Amazing fish..

Fervour also has good beef (albeit not necessarily grass fed) and there are quite a number of other still excellent places to get that steak you yearn for......just come back :-)

Rather than start another thread...

I, too, will be staying Palermo and could use some restaurant recommendations - and I do like French food. However, I'm a solo female traveler, and checking tripadvisor I've seen references to solos not being well received in some BsAs restaurants - including La Cabrera - so recs for solo-friendly places would be welcome. Small and local and not too pricey...

The way I see it, La Cabrera is a noisy, crowded and extremely touristy restaurant which happens to serve decent steaks.

Most of BA restaurants open for dinner at 8 PM. If you go as a solo around that time, you'll certainly be quite welcome.

I'm not too familiar with restaurants in the Palermo area, but these seem to be getting good reviews lately:

What kind of food are you looking for? Are you willing to go out of the Palermo area dor dinner?

I am happy to skip La Cabrera. I definitely want to try Argentinian beef, but veggies are good, too. I would prefer to eat dinner in Palermo and lunch elsewhere, but am flexible.
