Just returned and rented a car from an outfit called Fiorasi, in an office on Av Libertador, right across from the Park information office. We just needed 1 day to Perito Moreno, so got 236 pesos, including all insurance, with 250 km (Moreno is 80 km one way). They had other deals for more days and more km.
Also, I noticed a Hertz office a few blocks away.
Had a good experience with Fiorasi. No problems. Walked in in the afternoon, they had one available, came back at 8 pm and got the car, took it back before 8pm the next night.

Matt,

You will want to be sure, wherever you rent, that you can take the car to Chile. I looked into this once, and it was so complicated regarding insurance, etc., that I gave up the idea of taking a rental car between the two countries. One of the parties we travelled with arranged a car transfer at the border, where a driver from Chile took them from Torres del Paine to the border crossing near Puerto Natales and a driver from Argentina picked them up. I don't know how they arranged it. Good luck.

Does anyone know about On rent a car I have been emailing them they have been pretty helpful and the price I think is average 1150 pesos for 5 days including tax and documents to cross into chili unlimited times. 1000km included They also claim all new model cars.

How many KM do I need?

I have found the solution to my rental car needs, Look at Nunatak they are much cheaper than anyone else only $343 USD for 6 days with 1500KM and papers at no cost to enter Chili

Nunatak, avoid it!! We rent a car there, and we left our backpack for 10 minutes, when we realize we can back to the office (the house where they live)and the owner cheat us, we are 99% sure he keep it! We have all our electronics, pc, reflex camera, and more! too good for return like a honest people!! Really bad experience with them!! Not recomended at all, really dishonest people!! We pick it for the cheaper but It cost us much much more!! carefull!!

We just returned from Argentina and rented from Hertz in El Calafate. They are basicaly a franchisee and I'm not sure what their relationship is with Hertz. Their cars are sooo old we wondered about Hertz' quality control. We had a chevy with 70K miles that rattled and shook, knob for airflow was missing and it was like a tin box on wheels. In Argentina, if you do not buy Collision Damage Insurance, you have to leave a credit card guarantee for the purchase price of the car. It basically forces you to purchase insurance, which has a $1KUS deductible for theft, damage and overturned vehicles. We did not go to Chile but she asked us about that, which made me think there was either a charge or it was not allowed.

No company can rent out a car without an extra cost for entering Chile. The cost is for preparing notarised papers to present at the border which gives you permission to take a car which is not your property out of the country. The papers are presented at the border as you leave and again when you return. Any company which claims they do not charge for this is being economical with the truth.

It is Chile with an e, not an i.
