Planning 3 weeks in Columbia

We are planning approx a 21 day trip to Columbia. Our itinerary is pretty much set.. Bogota, Villa de Leyva, San Agustin, Armenia, Medellin, Cartagena...However we do have a question about whether we should take a couple of days and fly down to Leticia to spend a day on the Amazon. It seems a shame to be in Columbia and not experience this river! That being said we have been told it is "buggy" and hot (we are going in January).
If we do this, we will shave off a day in Medellin (3 nites instead of 4) s well as Cartagena (also 3 nites instead of 4) While in Cartagena we are going for a day trip to Rosario Islands.
I would like an opinion if it would be worth the time to take...Thanks to all!

I would go to the Amazon, if you have never been there before then it is a truly unique experience. The stuff you will see elsewhere in Colombia is OK, but there is colonial stuff and beaches and palm trees all over Latin America. Nothing quite matches the Amazon. Take good repellent for the bugs.

If you will ever go to Peru you might save that excursion for flying Lima to Iquitos instead.

There are several of us monitoring information on Colombia for future trips.

Hope to see your report!

Well, I have been everywhere you have said before, actually I'm from Colombia.
All the places you want to go have their own charm but talking about the Amazon river I must say it is an amazing place however have you check caño cristales, it is also a river and it is called the river of the 7 colors.
If is not possible for you to go to Leticia try to go there, you won't regret it.
If you need to know more about all the places you want to visit let me know and I will help you!!!
