Plan for 16 days in Brazil. Please critique!
I am planning a trip to Brazil next September (September is chosen for Pantanal).
Here is the plan I have so far, and got a quote from Brazil Nuts on this too. 1. Arrive to Salvador, and spend 3 nights here 2. Fly to Rio early in the morning and transfer to Parati - 2 nights 3. Back to Rio, and spend 3 nights here (2.5 days all together) 4. Fly to Iguassu falls and spend 2 nights 5. Fly to Pantanal – 5 days (including 2 days on traveling, 3 full days in a lodge) 6. Fly to Sao Paolo and home. I know this is too many places in too little time. However, I am not sure when we can come back, so I wanted to see the highlights. I am thinking, maybe I should exclude Parati, and add more time in Rio. Not sure, Parati sounds really good. Please let me know your thoughts Thank you in advance! |

Your trip plan looks great. 2 days in Salvador is and 2 in Rio is OK. Paraty is one of my favorite places. I like the almost untouched tropical islands and the calm seas. One day in Iguassu is enough. Pantanal time is good if your into Nature with a capital N

Perfect, thank you!
Will Parati be OK in early September as it relates to weather? |
The rainy season in Paraty is between Dec and March. If you haven´t check http://www.eco-paraty.com/english/se...planning.shtml

I'd also advise that this itinerary includes too much to absorb the flavor of anyplace on the list (except maybe the Pantanal) well. The Colonial center of Salvador is similar to the Colonial centers of other towns in Brazil and Salvador also has islands in the bay to explore. I would spend more time in the Salvador area and in Rio and not go to Paraty (although it certainly has its charms, as do many other places in Brazil). Because of usual travel times, half a day into Iguacu and half a day out is wasted on travel, so 2 nights gives a reasonable time to see both sides of the park and the bird park, and maybe a boat ride under the falls.

Thank you guys! Yes, I checked already and early Sept looks nice. Parati is still open question, but I heard a lot of really nice comments about the place.
