PERUVIAN AIRLINES OPERATIONS SUSPENDED FOR 90 DAYS

Yikes...if you have booked on Peruvian you'll need to rebook on Star Peru, Taca, or Lan. Personally I would not book on Peruvian until they are back up and running. It's quite likely that this is at least in part politically motivated. At present there isn't any notice on the PA website. If you have trip insurance contact them about how to proceed.

One of the many reasons to build some leeway into trip itineraries.

thanks mglb great info always do isuremytrip.com for this

You can bet LAN with their $178.50 per leg rip surcharge

is in the political mix past president of Chile owns

lots of LAN and is very poltically connected with Peru politicos

So taca.com or starperu.com for me next...

Any ideas what happens to ppl like me who booked them to travel in 10days? I tried calling them, but after a Spanish message it disconnects.... What a pain!!
How should I try to get a refund? Or should I just book on other airlines and forget about my $$. This sucks!!

I called my visa card and submitted a claim for "services not rendered". Let's see what happens next!

Since you have 10 days I think you should rebook immediately, I think your best bet is actually to call LAN and see if they will offer you a seat without imposing the fee (if you are flying into SA on one of their alliance members your chances may be better). If not I would rebook on another airlines so your whole trip isn't messed up. Of course there is always the bus trip option but if you are going Lima Cusco it takes a LOOOOONG time.

The punishment seems far worse than the incidents used as justification for shutdown. I read that Humala wants to start a national airline to compete with LAN, more likely it has to do with the general sketchiness of the owner of Peruvian Airlines.

This article claims that TACA and Star Peru are assisting affected passengers. Try them if you get no help from LAN.

It is always possible that this mess is cleared up sooner than 90 days but 10 days is pretty tight. Is it just coincidental that they waited until the Peruvian schools started to impose this?~!

I would make alternative bookings and try to block any payment made to Peruvian Airlines on your credit card. They may well get people on alternate airlines but they are going to have to use the seats those airlines have available. That is going to make a major mess of people's itineraries as it isn't likely everyone is going to fit on the day they want.

Qwovadis, the current, not past, President of Chile was a major shareholder in LAN Chile but sold his interest in it when he was elected. The idea that a center right president is close to anyone in the most leftist government Peru has ever had is ludicrous.

I would be interested to hear how others make out with any refunds or rebooking. I rebooked with TACA for our early October flights as I do not have confidence that the ban will be lifted on Peruvian Airlines and I didn't want to run the risk of not being able to get alternate flights. I have sent an email to Peruvian Airlines to inquire as to how they will handle the refund...no answer as of yet. Their phone message in Spanish just says hold for the next operator and then disconnects.

I just bought tickets afresh on Star Peru. Can't really wait around for a standby seat on other airlines while this mess is cleared up. I too sent an email and called, but no response! What I really don't understand is why did they just shut up shop and leave if the suspension is for 90days. They should be at least trying to help the stranded passengers... feel so sorry for them!

I think everyone will just have to assess their own tolerance for risk and hope that there will be pressure from affected Peruvians and tourism operators to lift the suspension quickly (it did seem like overkill to me.) If you are going somewhere like Iquitos where you have to fly in, and you risk losing an expensive prepaid lodge excursion, then I would book another flight quickly and take the financial hit if you have to (luckily PA tix weren't expensive to start with). If you have lots of time and the bus is an alternative, you can decide if waiting a few weeks for things to settle is an option.

Peru authorized Peruvian Airlines to resume operations | ANDINA - Peru News Agency
www.andina.com.pe
Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced that Peruvian Airlines has been authorized to resume operations, but only with its Boeing 737-300 aircraft

Yaa! they are back in the sky with their Boeings anyway...

My wife and I paid for two round trip tickets on Peruvian Air Lima to Cusco Sept 7-12 which were cancelled due to goverment shut down. We had to purchase new tickets on another airline to save our trip. Our tickets were purchased through "Latin America for Less" and they are still waiting for a refund from Peruvian Air.

Does anyone have any information on the status of anyone receiving refunds by Peruvian Air due to the shut down?
Peter
