Peru with 2 families next March
 

Hi Everyone,

Please advise if you think this itinerary looks good and if you can think of any other must do items or places I should add.

We are 2 families travelling together so 4 adults and 4 teens next Spring Break (March 2013).
1- Arrive Lima late and stay at hotel at airport
2- Fly to Cusco and staying at B and B. They are arranging all tours so will do ½ day Cusco tour in afternoon
3- Day trip to SV, etc…
4- Train to MP. Staying in Agua Calientes
5- Early morning back to MP-or hike. This is where I need help for what to do. All of us are in great shape-should we buy advance tix to HP hike? I booked Cabana due to budget so not up at Sanctuary. Late afternoon train back to Cusco
6- Free day-thinking of doing Moray and salt mines with possibly some biking
7- Flight to Lima. I booked a service to pick up and take us to a good place for lunch, give us a tour with evening fountain, and back to Miraflores by 830 pm.
8- Free day in Lima to rest and relax. I am sure kids will want to go in pool, etcc. Late night flight back home.

We are flying Star Peru so hope that airline works out. Was able to get this for under 200RT.

Any other things I am missing?

If you are all in great shape, take a couple of extra days and do the Inca Trail. Really, you will thank me forever. We took Star Peru and survived.

Looks like a good itinerary! I would agree if you think you can handle the trek, it's definitely worth it. Part of the beauty of Machu Picchu for me was knowing how hard we worked to get there, making you truly appreciate just how remote it is. Good idea to do Sacred Valley tour first because it's not nearly as impressive after seeing Machu Picchu. In Lima you should definitely make sure to go to the pyramids that are in the middle of the city called Huaca Pucllana. There is a delicious restaurant that overlooks them I believe by the same name. If you can swing it I think you'll want at least two full days in Cusco, it's a magical city!

Thanks. Yes hopefully Star Peru works out ok. The lima driver told me of a great vegetarian restaurant that is in a train type setting but I will look into this place as well.

You could go to the Sun Gate or Huayna Picchu.

I liked Greens in Cusco quite a lot.
