Peru Rail using bus between Cusco and Ollantaytambo until April 15
 

There is a notice on the website www.perurail.com that the train service from Cusco to Machu Picchu is going to be a combination bus/train until April.

If you have not yet booked, you may want to just book from Ollantaytambo and use a taxi to get between Cusco and the train station.

Bummer but not unusual thanks for posting.Always cheaper better for me for me to cab from Cusco down $25 or bus down for a couple of soles. www.apulodge.com nice folks good place to stay save me a tonne on train tickets over agencies sometimes.

no one saves you on train tickets as sales are the cost as on the official site.

No one can discount train tickets, but a lot of agents mark them up...so using someone that sells at face value DOES save you some money. However it's plenty easy to buy them online.

Last April when I bought my train ticket from AC to Cusco, they did this as well but PeruRail provided free bus transportation from Olly to cusco. It was quite nice.

Does anyone know if the departure times from Olly listed in the timetable on the above link are only available if you book the whole journey from Cusco to MP?

I want to use a taxi between Cusco and Olly as mlgb suggests, but I want to book the 8:29 Vistadome or 9:15 Expedition from Olly to MP. However, when I search for trains from SV (Ollanta) to MP those options don't appear...

The timetable you are looking at is for Cusco to MP.

If you are taking a taxi to Olly, look at the timetable for Sacred Valley to MP.

What I mean is, the timetable for Cusco to MP is broken in 2 parts. One part shows the times for the bust to Olly, and the other part shows the trains from Olly to MP.

Those Cusco trains tend to sell out so maybe they do not release the seats for just part of the trip.

If you are taking a taxi to Olly why would you want to pay the higher price for the longer trip anyways?

This happened to us last April too, think it's for track maintenance, but PeruRail had arranged to bus us to and from Olly, though we missed out on the switchbacks between Poroy and Olly :(
