Peru jungle – looking for wildlife/comfort balance

We are in the early stages of planning a 14-18 days to Peru in 2016, most likely August, unless a different time frame is recommended for better weather.

We know we want to visit the Sacred Valley, Cusco and Machu Pichu (no hike for us, we’ll stay in Agua Caliente). But I also want to spend around 4 days in a jungle lodge. I don’t think we’re interested in an Amazon cruise, but I’m open to suggestions.

I am looking for a place that has grounds with trails where I can walk by myself, balances wildlife (birds, frogs, animals, etc.) with some comfort. A private bathroom is a must, and for medical reasons, if taking a day tour, would need access to a bathroom with running water (clay click tour comes to mind here).
What lodge do you suggest? Thanks

xyz99--although it is far from luxurious or private, I stayed with these people and enjoyed it.
http://www.explorama.us/ This is relatively near Iquitos.

As far as I know, there is no place that has trails where you could walk by yourself. We were warned upon arrival not venture beyond the fairly small clearing because you can get lost in the jungle very quickly. In fact, our guide who was from the area said that he had gotten lost with a group early in his employment and they had all spent an unpleasant night in a tree--the only relatively safe place in the jungle at night.

You might try Manu Paradise Lodge or something else around the Manu Park. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...os_Region.html

You might also consider staying in Iquitos and hiring a guide to take you into the rainforest--when I was there many volunteered their services. However, I would be very surprised if you were able to find bathrooms with running water close to the rainforest.

dwdvagamundo,
Thanks a lot...but we are postponing the Peru trip for now. It's funny, but this is the second time we're looking into it, and then decide against it. Not sure why...
Anyway, the next destination will most likely be China, and just deciding where to go there is a challenge. It's a huge country :)

OK--Have a good trip. I've been thinking China for a few years now but generally have put that one off. Have good trip, no matter where you go.
