Peru in December
 

We are planning a 2 week trip to Peru in December. This is out first time in Peru and we would like to visit Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu.
Our only concern is weather and altitude. Nov-March are the wettest months, however is it recommended to go or it's off going during the peak season?

I would say you are much better off waiting until the peak tourist season of approx may to September.

We were there in early March and while the weather on the trekking portion of our trip was iffy, Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu were all very nice.

Depends when in december :) From the 15th of december to early january is also peak season. Early december is ok but you might have an entire rainy day at the Machu Picchu (the site is located at the entry of the Amazon Jungle)

If you can wait, the best month is may to my point of view.

I agree that early December may not be too bad, even a bit of a low season.

As a travel agent, austintraveler121, you should be aware that the rainy season really starts in October, usually. And that the end of December around the holidays is a busy season in Peru.

But it isn't apparent that you specialize in any particular country since you have been spamming the forums with your links.

We were in Peru the last week of December and the first week of January 2012. The weather was very nice. Maybe we were lucky.

Most of the time rains are intermittent, so it might rain when you enter Machu Picchu but clears up later. Or the reverse.

So even traveling in the rainy season, you have a good chance of clear days. January and February are the worst months for rain, most years. But there have been years when October is quite stormy, followed by a dry November. No guarantees!

For what it's worth, I spent April there in 2014, and the weather was so favorable I'm going to repeat in 2016. If that's the only time you have to go so be it, but April was simply lovely. mlgb knows much more than I do about Peru but my impression was that at least their fall was a good time to go. Given that there are a lot of different regions, and I was in a number of them, just take a variety of clothing options. It's just such a fabulous country it's hard not to enjoy yourself rain or shine.
