Peru Amazon cruises - security issue and other questions

We are considering an Amazon cruise as part of our trip to Peru. I recently read an article about some incidents involving pirates and Amazon cruises (in 2016). Is this still an issue? We are considering a cruise using Zafiro - has anyone used this cruise line? If so, how was it and do they adequate security? Suggestions about other cruise companies?

We very much enjoyed a cruise through International Expeditions last June. Seven nights on the Amazon Star. There were two armed guards on board, and the trip was without incident.

I still believe there is danger, though. But we loved every minute.

I have not taken an Amazon cruise but did briefly consider it as an add on to a Macchu Picchu trip.

In looking at reviews on cruisecritic, I found some alarming discussions of piracy on a Delphin ship in 2016. According to one victim who posted on the cruisecritic boards, the Pirates appeared to have been helped by a cruise employee.
