Patagonia Weather April
I am headed to El Calafate, Torres Del Paine and Usuahia end of next month. I was wondering if people could comment of weather conditions. I know it is going to be chilly 40's F and windy. I also understand it can rain. I am mainly concerned about rain as I can pack for cold weather, my wife and I want to do some hiking. I also understand the scenery is very nice in autume with the change in tree leaf colors.

Hi matt
I don't know but I am topping this for you so someone who does know will see this :- )
At the end of April ? It is still nice in BA... while you wait - look at weather underground and look at the Almanac section.. you can put in the dates of when you will be there and see what last years weather was like.. Hope this helps .. chau !

I have no idea why the website came up in Italian but it does have El Calafate weather !

I just did a trip to Torres del Paine, El Calafate and El Chalten. If I had it to do again I would fly to El Calafate spend several days exploring the Moreno Glacier and then go to El Chalten for two or three days of hiking. Torres del Paine was beautiful, but El Chalten was just as scenic and a lot cheaper and easier to get to. Puerto Natales offers few amenities compared to El Calafate and is just as expensive. By staying in Argentina you avoid the hassle of crossing the border which can be time consuming if the buses are backed up. I experienced variable weather with sunshine, rain and high winds often occuring many times during the course of the same day. Enjoy your trip.

Us warm blooded Hawaiian folks just returned from a 2+ week of travel to El Calafate, El Chalten, Iguazu Falls and Buenos Aires. We pack very light and had packed for the warm and cold climate. For cold climate, consider layering the top with an under armour shirt, a soft shell jacket (200 or 300 weight), then a gortex jacket (water proof). For the legs, under armour leggin, gortex pants. As we got warmer, it is easier to shed off the layers. The trekking in El Chalten to Fitz Roy was over the top. Enjoy and be safe.
