Paraty: Number of days? - Recommendations please (also Ilha Grande)

I've been to Rio several times and thought I'd start this coming trip with a few days in Paraty. I travel alone, enjoy the beach, culture, music (all things Brasil) but am not a 'party animal'.
How many days would you recommend for a stay in Paraty?
I'd be arriving in Rio mid-morning so probably wouldn't arrive in Paraty until late afternoon Friday. Would leaving on Monday morning give me "enough" time there (just over 2 full days) or should I add another day?
Also - Pousada recommendations? I'm budget minded: Nothing fancy but not a backpacker either.
And - Transportation to/from Rio? Is the best (or only?) way to go from the airport to bus station to take a bus - or are there shuttle-type services from the airport?
Lastly - I was deciding between Ilha Grande and Paraty. Do you think Paraty is best?

If you do e-mail, please put BRAZIL in the subject so I can spot the note easily.

www.nexussurf.com Florianpolis 41 perfect beaches best for me

Paraty more touristic backpackery ok for a view days

Many other great options www.brazilbeaches.org

Personally would do Iguazu/Florianopolis Combo

Has been great for me in the past.

Thanks for the reply. I've been to Iguazu already, and can
only do something a bus-ride away from Rio for these few days.
And I mean "few" - so do you think 2 days / 3 nts is too few?
I thought it best to stay 3 full days (4 nts.) Do you agree?
Also -
Do you have a decent but not packpacky pousada recommendation?

Really, the bus trip time to Paraty is about equal to a flight to, say, Salvador, so don't limit yourself. If you're headed in the direction of Paraty, it would be a shame not to make time for Ilha Grande as well, not an either/or, since they are so different. In Paraty, you'd want to see the historic architecture and maybe take a boat trip to Trindade beach. Beyond that, head for Ilha Grande. If the Colonial architecture is what you want to see, you could also go to Ouro Preto (perhaps via flight to Belo Horizonte and then bus) for the few days you have.
Have a nice trip.

Hi Jason,
if you only have 3 nights to explore the area, I would definitely focus in one of both places: Ilha Grande if you're into nature/beaches or Paraty if you like colonial architecture in a lovely landscape, using the city as a base to explore other beaches by car/bus (Trindade tipped by Equestrian is wonderful!) or by boat.
As far as pousada recommendations, I like Porto Imperial in Paraty and Naturalia in Ilha Grande.
My company can help you with the direct transportation from Rio de Janeiro airport and also with accommodation in both places. Please send me a DM if you're interested. Enjoy!
