packing for Galapagos

Four of us (2 in our 60's, kids in their 20's) are leaving for the Galapagos in a week. Is there anything you are glad you brought? Wish you had brought? Any other packing advice, other than to pack light?

Good pair of hiking shoes/boots for the walks on the islands.

If you haven't already found them, you might check out, a few of the more general pages on my trip report--especially the one titled "A tome of tips for travel." I've collected suggestions to consider not just from our trip but also from reports of other travelers.

We found hiking boots to be completely unnecessary. The "hikes" were all on easy paths or on the beach. My husband wore Keens (He loves them, but I'm not a fan because they don't keep out the sand). I wore super-lightweight Merrell's (http://www.zappos.com/merrell-siren-sport-elephant-pink), and although our teen boys brought trail runners, they wore flip flops just about everywhere.

Other musts: Speedo water shoes, a light fleece, a Tilly hat, sunglasses, binoculars, and, most important, AN EXTRA CAMERA - 2 of our 3 cameras were ruined by water/sand (although there was a Mac Genius guy on board who managed to save our photos), also a disposable underwater camera, extra bathing suit (you'll have am and pm excursions), "nice" outfit/sandals for evenings.

Also consider: convertible pants/shorts, rash guards, small computer for downloading photos, Sunbrella shirts.

And...try to fit everything in your carry-on. Our friends lost their luggage and were not reunited with it until the fifth day.

At least two of our walks were on very rocky paths, and I was glad I had my hiking boots.

To eash her own.
