While I agree you can get great info on BA esp from AV on this board, I think TA does have a more active forum and provides useful information.
|
Thank you yestravel. I did hop over to Trip Advisor and read thru the BA forum there, plus all the links kindly provided to me by avrooster. Appreciate the help!
(did not mean to offend anyone here with my question.) |
We have stayed in several areas in BA and Palermo is very nice with lots of restaurants, bars and boutiques. A few years back we stayed in Miravida Soho Hotel and Wine Bar which is in Palermo and really liked it. There are lots of hotels in the area also. And of course, it depends upon your price range.
I have read several TRs from women who have traveled solo to BA and they all seem to enjoy it and have had no problems. BTW, definitely take AV up on his offer to email him -- he is a tremendous resource on everything BA. |
Scarlett lived there.

Thank you so much, yestravel, for posting.
And yes AV and I have corresponded already, clearly a kind and gracious gentleman with a love for his city that shines through. |
I have been to your lovely city avrooster and read many of your replies to people's request for information.
You truly are a gem ! |
Thank you, Percy!
When should we expect you back in Argentina? |
Hopefully next year. But you can count on my contacting you when I come. !!
|
Great! That's what I hoped you'd say.

Hi Suze (and thanks to av for promoting my TR).
I stopped in BA for several days on my way to a solo work trip in Santiago. Stayed in Palermo and was honored to have dinner with the famous AV. The Time Out Guide is excellent for planning. I highly recommend the two tours I took: Biking Buenos Aires and Narrative Tango Tour. The bike tour took me to most of the iconic top sights, but I was very sorry to miss the Bellas Artes and Evita museums. If I went for longer I probably do a casa particular dinner, the Graffitimundo tour and the Shop Hop tour. I was overwhelmed by the shopping opportunities and so sorry I didn't buy more once I got to Chile and saw the difference in prices. Happy to answer more Qs, once you sort out your trip. It's a fabulous destination and I hope to get back really soon and get to Patagonia and other rural areas. |
And...btw, Iike you, Suze, I'm a Mexico fanatic. I started going often in my teens, visited 25 out of 31 states, and still return every year for winter vacation, often to the PV area. By now, I have probably been there over 100 times, not including the 2 years I lived there. So if you're interested in comparisons, I'm happy to help. Of course, as you've heard, BA is much more like Paris than anywhere in Mexico :)

Hi, crosscheck!
I sure hope you "get back really soon", this time with your DH in tow. LOL!!! I'm most certainly NOT a fan of "casa particular" dinners, but I guess it's matter of taste. Have a great time in my country. |
Thanks crosscheck, I just now spotted your two kind posts (was away this holiday weekend). I appreciate your thoughts, comparisons, input, and kind offer to help.

Hi Suze ...
Did you look at the TripAdvisor Buenos Aires forums ? Very friendly and very helpful. I was so thankful to them when we went down for our visit .. and even more so when we moved there. If I ever needed to ask someone where to go or about something, I knew there were people who would help .. even when I was living there. Before we moved there, we read every magazine and book .. Time Out is great, I have one here ! and magazines and online .. just put Buenos Aires in the Search box and have a good time ! There is a great guy ( young man) who has Free Tours that originate in the Park in Recoleta .. right across the street from the Hard Rock Care/Belle Artes Museum. I will look for his website .. I love these guys .. http://ba-walking-tours.com/ I have not read anyone elses answers, I haven't much time but wanted to give my 2 cents worth :) Actually I am dreadfully homesick for BA so I like to talk about it ... all the time. Recoleta is right next to Palermo (Botanico) Palermo is huge .. it is broken into sections .. Botanico ( parks , gardens, zoo) then there are the Soho and Hollywood Palermos .. Soho is fab for shopping and eating .. but a taxi ride every time you want to go sightseeing. Get a good map, break down the city into neighborhoods and save yourself from running from one end to the other .. the city is massive. so spend a day in San Telmo and visit Puerto Madero.. another day in Soho and you can spend full days in Recoleta, and Palermo. Get a good map. There is always someone who speaks English. They are all very well educated and most speak more than just Spanish although some speak French instead of English : ) If you need a taxi, stand on the curb, stick your arm straight out as if you were pointing across the street and a taxi will pull up. Give him the cross streets or address, if you can't say it, write it down. I totally love All the taxi drivers in Buenos Aires. I do .. it is official. The more research you do the better your time will be spent there. . you don't want to waste a second. ((F)) |
Scarlett~ Thank you so much for your beautiful post!! I do appreciate your practical tips, but even more how your enthusiasm and love for the city shines through! I don't have a "bucket list" but if I did, getting myself to BA would be at the top of it. siempre, Suze

ps- And yes, thanks, I have been over reading on Trip Advisor BA forum. I'm a regular on the Puerto Vallarta (Honolulu and Seattle) forums, so it was a logical leap ;-)

Is this the same poster who was protesting about recommending "friends" as guides? Lol
I would suggest not to use advice from an anonymous online forum by someone who does not have a long and positive history of posts on that forum that I could evaluate. |
This poster says "I don´t know if i m allowed to recommend here" (sic) and then goes ahead and recommends "only" THREE guides. LOL!
As usual, this forum's mods are AWOL. |
I think Liz is trying to promote her services.
