ONLY 1 and half day in Mendoza, MUST DOS
 

Hi , we are a group of 4 staying in center of Mendoza for only 1 1/2 day, what are the must dos that can be done in this short time. Apprteciate all the help please.

Many people would advise you to go on a wine tour, and that may interest you. I chose to take a day tour up into the Andes that was terrific. The mountains are so beautiful. I'm sorry I don't know the name of the tour operater we used, but I am sure it would be easy to find a tour.

Most hotels and guesthouses will have a range of tours available including the Andes as recommended by Kodi, and wine tours. We chose the wine tours as we had already spent a month or so in the Andes. I have to say I was not terribly impressed with our tour (booked via our guesthouse - Hostal Lao) but that may just have been that particular tour others may have had different experiences. The town itself is pleasnt enough with some good shopping an nice restaurant not worth more than a couple of hours of your limited time. On balance, I would go with Kodi's suggestion of teh trip to the mountains.

M, good to see you too. I've been thinking about you.. Oh how I would love to be returning to Argentina... not this year. I promise to be in touch.

We just returned from SA and spent 3 days in Mendoza. One hiking the Andes, one a wine tour and one walking in town. VERY disappointing, and DANGEROUS. We were held up with 2 guys on a motorcycle and a gun in the center of Mendoza. The travel agents aren't talking about all the issues. Wine tour lovely and food and restaurants great, but no comparison to Napa, Tuscany, Australia. The hiking was terrific but find a reputable tour company, and be CAREFUL!

Wow sorry to hear that you had that experience. As always I recommend being aware of your surroundings, not walking around with your camera out, wearing clothes that dont make you stand out. In my experience Mendoza is no more dangerous that any other South American city, and way less so than Buenos Aires. That being said, it is always good to be careful.

Booking with a good Tour company is always important. I would recommend one called Malbec Symphony Wine Tours (www.malbecsymphony.com)that I have had great experiences with.
