New rules for Argentina Reciprocity Fee ?
 

I am a US citizen, and have just a few days left before departing for Argentina. All of a sudden, I am told that the rules for paying the $160 (reciprocity fees) has changed: now I need to pay them online in advance, otherwise I won't be able to enter Argentina. Is it true ? Does anybody know the details ?

I visited Argentina in Nov. 2012, and paid $160 at the border. Do you know if I need to pay again ? They put some white sticker in my passport when I paid, but it does not say explicitly that I paid $160.

If you entered Argentina at one of the two airports in Buenos Aires on an international flight last November, you will have paid the US$160 and it is good for 10 years, even in an expired passport. From the 7th of January they started charging at all entry points into Argentina. But if you paid last November you should be fine and do not need to pay again.

No , if you are an American and have paid, you do not have to pay again for 10 years. Different rules for Canadians and Australians.

I believe you answered a question that I have as well regarding the reciprocity fee but if can get clairification I would really appreciate any help.

I've got the receipt for payment in my old passport (expired last year) from my last trip to Argentina three years ago. Will they accept this? I will be traveling via bus from Santiago to Mendoza...

FYI: Chile will not except the receipt in my old passport. I spoke with the Chilean Embassy earlier today and was told that it is only good for the life of the passport to which it is attached (10 years max.)

I believe that, in Argentina's case, if you are an American citizen, the payment is valid for 10 years, regardless of the passport's expiration.

"Para nacionales estadounidenses: el pago de la tasa será válido para múltiples ingresos durante un plazo de DIEZ (10) años desde la fecha del primer ingreso."

Obviously, you need to bring the receipt and, JIC, the old passport.
