Need Police Report from Santiago!
 

My computer was stolen at a bus terminal in Santiago about 2 hours before getting on a bus to Iquique.
The security guards were called and basically told me that nothing could be done and my computer is gone. I asked them to call the police so I could know more about what to do. They were reluctant to call the police and just told me that the police would tell me the same thing they told me. But apparently they did call the police to come to the station. But they never did come and I had to catch my bus up north.
So anyways, now I am in Bolivia and I need the police report from Santiago to make a claim with my insurance.
Does anyone know how I can go about doing this?? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Short of going back to Santago I very much doubt that you will be able to file a report with the Chilean police. Check the wording of your insurance policy CAREFULLY and see what at that says. Most will stipulate that thefts must be reported witching 24 hours.

I had a camera stolen ( also in a bus terminal!!) in Ecuador and couldn't file the report striaght away as the police station in Banos was only open a few hours a day and only a few days a week. I phoned my insurers explained the situation and they were very understanding and said as long as I got the report it was ok.

You could try calling your insurers to explain that you did try to call the police but had to catch your bus or you would have had to claim for a lot more than the value of your computer in costs of tours, hotels, flights etc. worth a shot.

You could try emailing the Santiago police but I very much doubt you will get a response.

You can only make a police report in person in the closest police station when something like this happens in Chile. The police would not go to the station to take a report unless there were special circumstances (you were injured, the thief was caught etc). As suggested, contact your insurer and see what they say.
