My favorite restaurant in Buenos Aires
Presently in Buenos Aires , I realized that our favorite restaurant
is Resto in Calle Montevideo, near Calle Paraguay in the block of the 900.... this is a tiny little bistro inside the building of the Sociedad de Arquitectos. Coming in, it is located at the back of a patio. Through the years this place has never failed us. The service is excellent, the wine list impressive and they are very good in suggesting the right wine for each different food. The chef is a woman, the menu is very short having as main dishes only a red meat, a fresh fish, a vegetable dish, and usually quail. Last week we paid 179 pesos for two, some 50 us plus tip. They do not accept credit cards. For that money we shared a starter of green tender leaves, small delicious artichocke hearts and pecan nuts, the dressing was perfect. As main dishes we both had fish, called abadejo, thick and white, NOt overcooked, but just right, it had a light sauce, and come with bacon and aboundant esparragus perfectly cook they were tender and juicy. Two kinds of homemade bread, I loved the one with raisins and nuts. As dessert we had one kind of cream caramel with fresh ripe cherrys and one peach sorbet with peach compote. There were two other desserts in the menu each requiring over 20' to be prepared. We had two glasses of good white wine. I wish to share this with those coming to B.A. it is a tiny place.Main setback tables are smallish. Your hotel concierge should make reservations . It is open for lunch for dinner it is opened only on week ends ( Friday and Saturday) and I understand there is music and prices are slightly higher. Bon appetit. |
Thank you, Graziella!
Further comments about Restó (in Spanish) can be seen here: http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar/detail.php?ID=489 You are obviously having a great time in BA, so my trademark "have a great time in our town" is redundant. LOL!!! Have a safe trip back home to the "good ole USA" and be sure to give us a full trip report, when time permits. |
Thank you Graziella for posting this restaurant. This sounds like one of the "hidden Porteno gems" that I have been searching for. I will definitely give it a try on our first trip to BA this coming Jan/Feb.

Hi condu, I hope you will like it as much as I do. Reading the newspaper La Nacion I have seen
( but I did not try them personally) some offers that sound good. Usully they are sponsored by some winery, for instance MeNU SAN FELIPE ROBLE in Cabaña Villegas, Alicia Moreau de Justo 1048, 4343 0108 $68 per person Offers an appetizer, a main dish and a bottle of wine San Felipe , which is very good, for two persons. Also free salad bar. Only cash. free valet parking. I beieve that La Nacion is good source for these offers which come out often. ( If am not wrong this address should be in trendy Puerto Madero, but I am not sure) |

Thank you for your info on the "special" dinners sponsored by some wineries. Is La Nacion a Spanish language newspaper? I am not literate in Spanish. (Blush) |
