We've also considered this trip - and would like more info about qwovadis comment about safety/robbery issues. Also I was under the impression this boat was not supposed to be rustic. Thank you

I am not sure what season it is in the amazon, i know in lima it's always cold...is it rainy?? hhmm..

ragtopgirl --the boat isn't rustic, it has only 12 suites and it is on the luxury end..which i'd like as i just want to relax and take in the surroundings.

the robbery issue happened when gaston acurio and a few other prominent figures were on board, if i'm not mistaken. they came out saying no one was hurt, just valuables taken and eventually all items were recovered. i am not really concerned about that aspect.

i'm more interested in knowing the age range, reviews, cuisine, and itinerary. (i could find a lot of this on their web site but i would like info from actual travelers)

I've got some more news for you...Lima isn't always cold.

Rustic meaning boxy cabins with picture windows

crudely built on top of each other

in an old flat boat...

It is not the Oasis of the Seas...

The ship is fully air-conditioned, but has no radio, cell-phone or Internet access. (There is a satellite phone for emergencies.) The lounge does, however, have DVD's and a flat-screen television. Small DVD players are also available to borrow for in-suite use.

Ship not rustic. It was a luxurious (w/out being stuffy),comfortable vessel w/excellent food, attentive crew. Air conditioned, plenty of hot water for showers, clean. The bed was terrific, especially the full picture window with the banks of the Amazon as your scenery. Can't say anything negative about the experience, and have traveled extensively. Plan to go again in the high water season on the Aqua. highly recommend it.

mlgb,

Sorry but June is not the rainy season.

June to August is the dry season in Peru. Of course it can rain during dry season just as there are sunny days in the rainy season.

I was in Lima, Cuzco, Lake Titicaca and the Amazon jungle in June 2008 and the weather was glorious. The most perfect weather was in Lima where it was not too hot or too cold and I never saw a drop of rain. In the Amazon jungle it was a lot warmer and humid but still no rain on my trip.

Here's an interesting web site about Peruvian weather:

You are right I got it backwards...

robert1 Nov 13th, 2009 02:03 PM

Rustic is hardly a fit descripition. Aqua was built in 2007, it's flat bottomed because it is a river boat and I don't think Oasis of the Seas would fit on the headwaters of the Amazon!

Lima climate is very pleasant. Think San Francisco without the fog. It's very near the equator so not cold; and very low annual rainfall.
