MP ticket ? and train ?

We have train tickets reserved with Peru rail from Ollantaytambo to MP Nov. 11 at 7:45 am, overnight at Sanctuary Lodge, (needed to rob a bank for that but no matter) and then return tickets from MP to Poroy on Nov. 12. My question is that I have heard everyone mention not to take suitcases on the train because of lack of space and just pick them up at your hotel on the return. Since we are not returning to Ollantaytombo, should we just hope for the best as far as space?

Question 2 - I read that the tracks between Ollantaytombo and Poroy are not yet fixed and you take a bus the last leg. If that is true, when might the tracks be fixed?

Question 3 - When we arrive at Agua Calientes on Nov. 11, can we buy MP entrance tickets for two days?

I know everyone says the Sanctuary Lodge is overpriced, but just the idea of sitting on our balcony looking at the mountain seemed like it was a good idea to spend my kids inheritance. I figure I would leave them my photos.

andeantravelweb.com best info for you

plenty of space for your bags no worries

MP entrance for 2 days unwise you can do it all

in one day most usually start with the HP climb at sunrise

Ruth Wright "MP Revealed" on Amazon.com best guide for me

usually buy mine from Cultural center on

plaza in Aguas Caliente 126 soles exactly no CC USD

when there acouple of years ago.

SL overpriced expensive remote only one AT MP

still not bad for the night go for it.

inkaterra.com and Sumaq the other 2 upscales there

lots better than the more dated sort of ugly expensive SL

both in AC not at MP SLs 1 claim to fame.

Happy Travels

The tracks were fixed in mid-May.
We chose NOT to stay at the Sanctuary, mainly because you'll not be able to go anywhere in the evening. Sumaq was a fabulous hotel with even more fabulous food, and a much lower price than Sanctuary.

We sat on our balcony (or bed) and had an unobstructed view of the raging Urubamba River and the mountains. We could also go out the front door and walk around town. Sumaq not only purchased our tickets for us, but had an employee stand in the bus line in the morning, then had the bus picked us up at the front door of our hotel!

Enjoy spending your money. You earned it.

There will be a porter at the train station who will take your bags for you to the hotel (whichever one you choose). The bus tickets to the top are $14 round trip. Available at a ticket window on "main street". You can buy two one-day tickets at the visitor center. The building is just off the main square. They are not available for purchase at MP (unless the Sanctuary Lodge will pick them up for you - at the price they charge they should).

AC does have more options for dinning and night life. But depending on how you deal with altitude sleep is a wonderful thing too. By staying at the lodge you get about an hour of extra time after everyone else has had to leave.

When I got my train tickets it says you can only have 11 lbs 62 inches (length + height + width).

62 inches isn't a problem but 11 lbs is a problem - my bag empty I think is 9 lbs. Any ideas?

I don't believe for a minute they're taking U.S. coins. I'm sure they're rounding to the nearest even price. Rounding UP of course.

Sumaq is on the road leading out of town on the way up to the ruins. I'm sure that's the only reason their people can arrange for the bus to stop there and pick up their guests. That wouldn't be an option for Inkaterra because of where it's located.

Thanks for all of the replies. I still have my heart set on the Sanctuary Lodge. You know what they say, location, location, location. So thanks Diane60030 for agreeing. With the hotel, all of our meals and afternoon tea is included so that makes me feel a tad bit better about the price.

I will email Peru rail about the luggage question and will let you all know what they tell me.
