Motorhome rental in Argentina - Has anyone done this?

We love renting motorhomes and and have done this in Australia, America, New Zealand and South Africa, we're planning a 3 week trip to Argentina this October and were wondering if it's possible to do the trip by motorhome. I know the distances between places is big and we would obviously have to fly in between the rentals. I also know that it's not very common to do this in Argentina but I've seen that there are quite a few rental agencies on the web so someone must be renting them. Has someone done this and if so can recommend a rental agency and a 3 week itinerary.

Thanks

Hi clark

Like you we love travelling in motor homes we rented one for two months in New Zealand and loved it (despite it being in the depths of there winter!

When we moved on to Argentina we would have loved to do the same thing but a) we couldn't find a rental agency and b) if we could have got one we would have wanted to drive it on many of Argentina's roads! (only about 40% are tarmac).

In the end we travelled but bus (very efficient and comfortable) and rented cars in various area for a week or so at a time. Two drives which I would highly recommend are from San Marin de Los Andes , through the seven lakes area to Bariloche - awful weather but spectacular scenery and the Salta region - this really is a must do.

For more info re our itinerary please see our blog:

Entries # 70 on cover Argentina
Hope this helps a little - happy to answer any specific questions you may have.

Thanks crellston, I've just finished reading your magnificent blog, what a wealth of information, we're also planning a Vietnam holiday so it was double helpful. We now know why people don't rent motorhomes in Argentina. We'll certainly take your advice and do the 2 drives that you suggested.
Thanks again.

Glad you found the blog useful Clark55. avrooster - you are too kind!! However, I gave up claiming to be an expert on anything a long time ago. If however your definition of an expert is, as someone once said: " An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes", then you are probably spot on!

Whe did hire a Rv in Argentina( 6 weeks) , it is a very nice way to visit this beautiful country, the people are very freindly and helpfull, national routes are in good shape, if you like to plan the trip the website ruta0 is very helpfull , you can always know what kind of route you will encounter.
Minus: the prices to hire in Argentina are very very expensive and the rent companys at least the one whe hired (adventurehome)are not so nice , the ask first 50% of the amount and afterwards the send you a wrestling contract where al the cost at the car and any risc you may encounter is yours !! Than they ask 3000 $ guarantee with they would pay back afterwards, but if you have being driving, to fast, to slow, on dirt roads or to high roads or what ever they invent you wont get back your guarantee ! So wath out, ask first a version of there contract before you pay anyting !!

Thanks giovanni, we decided on vietnam last year so we're still planning Argentina, however your post has convinced me even more that a motorhome is not a good idea in Argentina.
