Medellin: Covid; When to Go; Where to Stay

Hello. I would like to plan a trip to Medellin in the near future. I have never been to South America so I have some basic questions. I have been fully vaccinated. Should the Covid pandemic prevent me from going? If I do go would a trip in late May or early June make sense? Finally, where should I stay in Medellin?

Thanks.

Should the Covid pandemic prevent me from going? Yes it should. Covid cases and deaths across South America are out of control thanks largely to the situation in neighbouring Brazil where the variant of the virus is much more transmissible, is possibly vaccine resistant and seems to be affecting children and younger adults as much as older people . Do you really want to take that back home?

If I do go would a trip in late May or early June make sense? A good time of year but perhaps not this year ( see above)

Finally, where should I stay in Medellin? Depends what type of place you are looking for. Many will stay in El Poblado we chose a hotel near Museo de Arte Moderno. A bit out of the way but close to transport and the food truck street.
