Well, I'd like to plan a trip in mid-June.
I have been reading on several pages and for what I understand it is necessary:

- What do I have to take along the Inca Trail?

- How far in advance do I have to book?

One thing to keep in mind is the solstice celebration (Inti Raymi) celebrated in late June in Cusco, and lodging in Cusco and the entire area will be scarce and expensive. If you can hold off until early July, you may find it easier to do.

I recommend to take the cold jacket, sunblock and mosquito repellent,
I recommend to book in advance, June is high season,
I went the Inca Trail with Tierras Vivas and high recommend

Late response here but regarding getting educated about what you need to bring and need to know, your tour company should provide you well in advance with a lot of information about this. June does get booked up very quickly. If you really want the best experience of the Inca Trail as well as Machu Picchu itself, I recommend the 5 day / 4 night version and many reputable companies offer it. This way on Day 4, you arrive later in the day and get to rest that night and have the next day to really take in the Lost City. Otherwise, you will have woken up very, very early in the morning do get to the Sun Gate and hike down into the Citadel and immediately tour it. It is not ideal but if you are short on time, I guess it is the only way. Get your entrances soon though.

A couple of friends and I hiked the Inca Trail and we booked months in advance. There are only 500 permits available per day and this includes not only travelers but also guides and porters.
