Looking for resources

Hi all,

I've just been invited to spend some time in Ecuador, Quito specifically, with my brother who will be there for the summer and has rented a two bedroom apartment. I hadn't thought I would be able to afford a trip this year so this is hitting me totally out of the blue! I'm still not certain I can afford to go but I might as well plan as though I can.

What I'd like are some suggestions for resources to learn about Ecuador, Quito, etc. I will be reading posts on this forum and trip reports but I'm interested in websites and book recommendations. If I do go it will be sometime in June or July.

I normally plan quite a bit in advance, I've been planning a trip to Paris for Spring 2012, so I feel quite rushed this time. Any information you could point me towards would be appreciated.

Thanks!

This trip is still about three months away. That really is a nice long time to plan. Remember that one of the big tasks in planning a trip (deciding where you're going to stay) has been taken care of for you already. Your brother will also be there and, presumably, he'll know some of the lay of the land by the time you arrive, so that should help. :)

A good guidebook will be helpful at this point.

HI Ann,
Ecuador is a great place to visit, and is quite inexpensive compared to USA or UK standards. I personally like the Lonely Planet travel guide books, as you can get one for the whole country....the best part about Ecuador is that it is a small country, and you are able to see so many different regions in such a limited time. These guides tell you a bit about each town, city, event, costs, etc. I have found them useful in the past. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks all. I'll pick up the Lonely Planet book and check out the websites.
