Leftover pesos
Our government has intentionally complicated anything related to the purchase of foreign currencies with pesos.
Tourists should find it relatively easy to sell their countries' currencies when they arrive here, but they should be forewarned that they may be unable to buy them back when they leave, with any leftover pesos they may have, UNLESS they have the invoice showing they exchanged their currency for pesos when they landed here. There is a thread on TA about this: http://tinyurl.com/bucelwo So, I suggest you keep the invoice showing you SOLD your currency when you came into the country or spend all your pesos before leaving. The tax-free shop would probably be your last chance to do this. They sell some cheap items, such as our wonderful "dulce de leche" or our great "alfajores". Have a great time in our country. |
avrooster: I never have trouble getting rid of pesos before leaving BA. :)I just save enough for the taxi to the airport!

I have just flown out of my country and, therefore, I was in our international airport yesterday.
I saw a nice young lady approaching one of the booths operated by the Global Exchange crooks, which are all over our airports. She had more than 700 pesos left over and could not believe she would not be able to buy back any dollars. I tried to explain the situation, but my plane was about to leave. I offered to sell her some of my dollars, but at the free market rate. Unfortunately, I forgot to tell her all she could do was spend the money at the tax-free shop, as she apparently did NOT have the invoice proving she had SOLD dollars when she came into Argentina. I'm pretty sure this is happening hundreds of times a day in our international airport. So, keep the invoice, as said above, or spend all your pesos before leaving and do NOT deal with Global Exchange. Have a great time in our country. |
You have a fine time too, AV - wherever you are in the world !
