Leather jacket in buenos Aries?
My old jacket is beyond repair and I did not see many for sale at home in the U.S, since puffer coats are the big trend. I read the older Fodors posts about leather jackets not being especially a good deal or good quality in Buenos Aries, but since I can't find one at home in the Washington DC area, I thought I might try in BA ( we arrived here yesterday and are loving it!). Staying in Recoleta , if that matters to your answer. Would not spend more than about $250 to 300 usd on it. Don't have my heart set on it; just thought Maybe! Thanks.

I have no idea abut the quality of leather jackets in BA, but there are various qualities here in the U.S. and I'm sure it's the same there. If you see something you like, why not get it? WTH.

When last there ( a few years ago now) I had a similar mission to find a leather jacket. Searched high and low and eventually found a bunch of leather shops, I think in Villa Crespo. They seems to stock factory run offs like Timberland etc. But quite frankly, whilst the quality was good, the prices were similar to what we pay back home in the UK - which is probably 30-50% higher than the US.

In Buenos Aires as in everywhere else ( but China) you get what you pay for.
You can get fabulous leather goods but they are not dirt cheap. You can get cheap leather goods, but don't expect them to last/be great quality. I only found handbags were generally fabulous in leather and workmanship. Shoes look good , feel good but now and then a sole will come off or stitching will be wonky : ) Sadly, there are no bargains .. you get what you pay for in this case. |
It was not meant to be! Went to an area that 2 locals recommended and must have tried on at least 15 jackets. Nothing fit right and no amount of tailoring was going to work. No big deal.
