Layover in Lima

I'll be flying into Lima from Cusco, with a long layover before my flight back to Denver. Any suggestions for a woman traveling alone?

How much time do you have between flights? What time of day? What are your interests?

Yes, it would help to know the information asked for by tripplanner001. If you want to research your own options, I'd recommend the website limaeasy.com and wouldn't worry too much about the "woman alone bit".

For transport from the airport I recommend taxidatum.com and I also see they are now offering touring services. Might be worth asking for a quote.

Bear in mind that you need to leave back for the airport approx 3 hours before your flight time. If you have a boarding pass and your luggage is checked through, you might be able to shave a little bit off of that.

Lima has some great museums and historic buildings and plazas, if you arrive during daylight hours. (They tend to close around 5 pm). If you don't want to walk around then Larco is good and also has a restaurant.

Things I particularly enjoy in Lima are walking around Barranco looking at the murals and visiting galleries, going to the art and history museums, and eating seafood.

Thanks for your replies. I've been to Lima before, staying in the Miraflores district. I will not be checking luggage, but will have a roller bag. I haven't booked my flight from Cusco to Lima yet. Am still considering getting a late checkout at my hotel in Cusco and spending the day there, then flying to Lima in the evening. My flight leaves at around midnight.

I don't think it's a great idea to do the evening Cusco flight and return home the same day unless it's all on one ticket and the airline is obligated to put you on the next flight if you miss the connection due to a delay from Cusco. During summer that can mean a long wait and possibly missing any connections inside the US.

There is luggage storage at the Lima airport, together with a round trip transfer into Lima you are looking at about $50 or more. With a midnight flight you need to find a place that starts dinner at 8 pm, or earlier. So that you head back to the airport by 9pm at the latest.

If you are just looking for general suggestions and since you haven't stated your interests, or what you have previously seen and done, then I would again suggest the website limaeasy.com which is sorted by interests, eg museums.

Not really a big fan of Miraflores. Too many casinos and tourist pizza shops, too much traffic, too little history.

Have you been downtown?

I have not been to downtown Lima. Do you know it there are day tours available that will pick me up at the airport? I will definitely check out limaeasy.com. Thanks.

I think I've already suggested taxidatum twice for that purpose.

I am now in touch with taxidatum and in the process of working out a tour with them. Thanks so much for your advice, mlgb.
