Laundry Options in Peru
 

My husband and I will be spending 12 days in Peru - this will include stops in Cusco, Puno (Lake Titicaca), and Arequippa. As we will be flying LAN between these points, I want to ensure we travel as lightly as possible. So.....is it easy to get laundry done at these locales? If so, what are prices like?

There's always the bathroom sink. Much easier than looking for a laundry, and cheaper than paying your hotel.

Plenty of laundry places around old town Cusco. Some even say they open 24 hours. Unless your hotel is away from most other ones.

I belong to the thursdaysd school of travel laundry, i.e. the bathroom sink. (Plays havoc with my delicate hands though!). Only takes a few minutes

Laundry places are abundant in Cusco and, to a lesser extent in Arequipa. I rarely use them but from memory, they charge around a dollar a kilo. Look out for signs saying "Lavandería" Hotels will charge much more how much more depends on the class of the hotel.

If staying in hostal or guest house they will often arrange to get it done for you for a small fee ( or none) . Many smaller places will let you use their facilities to wash stuff. Bear in mind that it if you DIY it can take a while,to get stuff dry so do your laundry and get it drying on arrival at your accomodation.fan heaters and hair dryers are your friends!

I only take clothes that drip dry well and fast - well, except for socks. I like to have my clothes washed in cold water, which is not always possible with machines. And then there was that time in Cambodia when my trousers came back from the laundry with yellow streaks...

"I only take clothes that drip dry well and fast - well, except for socks" totally agree! I love my merino walking socks but they do take an age to dry. Fortunately one can wear them several times before they start walking on their own!

Thanks for all the tips! I have no problem doing socks and underclothes in the room but I will definitely be sending out my pants and tops. Good to hear that it is both affordable and very easy to find...at least in Cusco (we'll be staying in the San Blas area). I'm sure we can find similiar options in both Puno and Arequippa as well.
