Peru & Bolivia for 3 weeks over December 18th until January 12th

Hi,

I am hoping to go to South America for the first time for 3 weeks this Christmas Decemeber 18th until in and around January 10-12th.

I hope to go to Peru and Bolivia
Flying Dublin to Cusco, then Cusco Lima, Fly Lima to La Paz

Taking into consideration where would be nice on Christmas day and New Years Day and also what the weather would be like in these areas this time of year I would Greaaatly appreciate any tips and advice you can give me please?

What internal travel do you recommend? What would be the best places this time of year to visit and long should be spent in each place given the time frame.

Flights are very expensive for this time of year so if the trip is possible Id need to get booking soon but I’m not sure where to start.

Thanks a mil

You will be traveling in Peruvian/Bolivian Summer which means WET SEASON so make sure you bring your rain gear.It is a nice time to be there as it is considered the low tourist season as well. Make sure you give yourself some "wiggle" room in case things are slowed down because of weather.

You don't have to fly back to Lima to go to Bolivia. You will have to fly into Lima from outside the country to get to Cusco if that is your first stop. From Cusco, you can continue through the Andes and over to Lake Titicaca on the Peruvian side and visit that area and continue by land over to Bolivia. Much to see along the way.

Hope this helps.

Amaszonas should be flying Cuzco to La Paz but you may be better to go by bus or train to Puno. From there
take buses to Copacabana and La Paz. Or the Transturin day trip.

Suggest you buy Fodor's guide which includes a bit of Bolivia.

I stayed on the coast of Peru during southern hemisphere spring with a surf family at their beach front property just outside Lima (www.focussurf.com). They say their summers at the beaches are crazy, and everyone goes to San Bartolo, which they took me to. They said all the shops that were empty along the coast while I was there fill up once the Holidays come around. Northern Peru like Mancora might be a great place as well. The weather will vary depending on what region you go to. From what the family said, seems like the beaches are where you want to be.

When I went to Cuzco for my Macchu Picchu excursion, it was fairly dry, but Aguas Calientes (where Macchu Picchu is) was humid and tropical. Not sure how it's going to be in Dec/Jan.

Also a heads up, there's an airport tax every time you fly out of a Peruvian airport whether it's domestic or international.

hope this helps, and have a great time!
