Itinerary Help Peru>Bolivia>Chile>Argentina>Brazil

Hi guys, I would love some assistance and opinions on this itinerary. Is there anything of interest I have missed out? We have a few extra days we can disperse through the trip as we haven't booked flights yet.

We love the outdoors, small towns, culture, however 1-2 full days in large and modern cities like Santiago and BA would probably be enough for us.

Is there any secret spots we have missed on this route?

Is it worth visiting Tupiza or Salta?
What is the best way and fairly cheap to go from BA > IGUAZU > RIO?

If you are around Rio for those last days, you could consider going to Ilha Grande by bus and ferry.
You haven't left much time at all to see Brazil -- the Pantanal, Bonito, the historic Colonial towns in Minas Gerais state, Salvador and the Bahia coastline, the Chapada Diamantina, Recife/Olinda, the northeast beaches including up to Jericoacoara, the Lencois Maranhenses.......Rio and the falls are not the be all and end all of Brazil.

Oh, and certainly about equal to the bus at most times of year and certainly less time wasted, if not always consistently the cheapest way, from Foz do Iguacu to Rio is probably a domestic flight. Check GOL and TAM.

What time of year are you planning on going? This could have a big effect on your travel plans.

A few thoughts;

I would definitely include Salta and Tupiza which could fit in nicely with San Pedro plus, the tours from Tupiza are arguably of a higher quality and less busy ( see my blog link below for more info)

IMO too much time in Santiago and not enough in Lima and BA

I would include a tour of El Alto ( 1/2 a day) whilst in La Paz

no jungle visit? Is that deliberate? I would include a trip maybe in Peru or Madidi in Bolivia

I agree with SambaChula that you haven't left a lot of time for a massive country like Brazil. I have visited only very briefly but would be inclined to extend time there at the expense of somewhere else or cut it completely and save for another time.

Too much time in Huacachina!!!

I agree add another day in to Lima instead.

Thanks for the replies guys. We will definitely visit Brazil again. Just cant afford the time this trip.

If we were to visit the amazon, what would be the best place to go? Fly to Iquitos?

We are going in December and are aware it will be rainy season in Peru but we should get good weather in Patagonia.

We will cut 1 day from Santiago. Will also stay the extra time in Lima/BA.

Thanks for the tip on El Alto.
