Is Buenos Aires cold in September

I've been dying to go to Buenos Aires for years, and my husband and I suddenly may have the opportunity to take a last minute trip in early-September. We'd have about 10 days and split our time between BA and a ski resort in Chile (probably Valle Nevado) and then spend 1 or 2 days in Santiago before flying direct back to NYC from Santiago.

But, will we be uncomfortably cold in BA the first week of September? Or is it usually in the 60s during the day? Does the ferry to Colonia, Uruguay still run in September? We want to go to Patagonia and Bariloche one day so we will be back at some time in the future, so are we better off going somewhere else other than BA?

If anyone also has any recs for ski resorts other than Valle Nevado, which just seems so convenient to Santiago, I'd love whatever advice you may have.

Thanks!!!

Hi, Imschmale!

You'd have to be VERY unlucky to get "uncomfortably cold" weather in BA during the first week of September.

Our winter is mild and you are coming in late winter.

Right now, the weather is pretty bad (by our standards) and it's below 60, but expected to be above that soon http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/ARBA0009:1:AR

The ferry to Colonia runs the year round.

I don't quite understand your:

"We want to go to Patagonia and Bariloche one day so we will be back at some time in the future, so are we better off going somewhere else other than BA?"

Have a great time in my town.

Thanks, Avrooster! Sorry I wasn't more clear. I mean that we want to go to Patagonia and Bariloche some day, so if September isn't a good time for us to visit Buenos Aires, I am confident that we'll be back to Argentina one day and can spend time in BA on the trip that we also go to Patagonia and Bariloche. But, it sounds like the weather will be comfortable, though not hot, so the bigger questions seems to be whether the skiing (at Las Lenas or Valle Nevado) will still be good the first or second week of September, or if that is too late in the season.

About your:

"so the bigger questions seems to be whether the skiing (at Las Lenas or Valle Nevado) will still be good the first or second week of September, or if that is too late in the season."

The only answer I can think of is "it depends", on the weather, of course.

But I think it should be OK.

Have a great time in my country.

I lived in Chile for 5 years. Valle Nevado is an international ski resort upper class. Other is La Parva for high class Chile.

Hi eandrear, do you have any suggestions for travel agents or internet websites to book a room at Valle Nevado? The resort looks great but I think it's sold out the week we can go, but I'm hoping maybe some travel agency by chance may have a room still available. (I've already checked agoda, hotels.com, booking.com, expedia, priceline, and airbnb.)

In the meantime, I'll definitely look into La Parva. (We already nixed El Colorado, Termas de Chillan, and Portillo because they don't sound quite right for us.)

Any thoughts on making the drive from Santiago to Mendoza, Argentina in early-September? Will the road conditions be poor? Should we expect to spend a lot of time at the border?

Imschmale: as you said, Valle Nevado seems to be sold out.

If you are considering "making the drive from Santiago to Mendoza" and that means driving yourself, forget about it and fly.

If you wish to go to Bariloche and its Cerro Catedral for skiing, I can help with that, but I'm quite ignorant about Chilean ski resorts.

Have a great time in my country.
