Inkaterra worth the cost?

From the pictures I have seen it is clear the Inkaterra is a beautiful hotel, and the reviews I've read are positive as well, but I am wondering if it is worth paying 5 times the price of some of the other nearby hotels. My wife and I will be traveling with our two adult daughters so we will need two rooms. That's $1100 for one night at Inkaterra vs $220 for someplace like La Cabana. Gringo Bill's and Rupa Wasi are even more affordable and I was intrigued by the pictures of Rupa Wasi with its large windows and expansive views.

Obviously these lower priced hotels are not as luxurious as Inkaterra, but it seems that after spending a day on the trail all we really need is a clean quiet room and a comfortable bed. Especially when I know we will be up and out by 5 am for the bus to Machu Picchu next morning.

This is a once in a lifetime trip for us, so I don't mind paying the higher price if the experience is worth it, but I am interested in thoughts from those of you have stayed at any of the hotels I have mentioned or if you have recommendations for others I may not have considered.

Thanks for you input.

My husband and I spent a couple of nights at Sumaq, and also a couple at Inkaterra. Inkaterra was absolutely worth the money--it was almost as much of a destination as Macchu Picchu. I'd recommend spending an extra day, just enjoying the grounds of Inkaterra, the complimentary hikes and bird watching trips, and maybe visiting the spectacled bear recovery center, too.

We loved Inkaterra, it was and probably will be the most expensive place we have ever stayed. The service, rooms, wonderful...and the grounds...fantastic. I hope to go back again. Money well spent!
