Cordoba-scenic small towns nearby

My husband and I will have 3 nights in Cordoba in October and ideally would like to spend the middle night in a scenic small town that offers hiking, bicycling and/or horseback riding. I see several small towns mentioned online (Aguas de Oreo, La Faldo, La Cumbre, Alta Garcia, Calamuchita). I imagine we'd take a bus but could rent a car, if necessary. I'm wondering if anyone has any favorites or opinions on these towns. Thanks!

Sorry, our friend who lives there is now traveling, but we've heard him talk about La Cumbe and Alta Gracia (where there are museums to Manuel de Falla and Che Guevara), but we don't know them.

Get a Lonely Planet guide, which does much better than Fodor's with small towns. You might also look at Mina Clavero. Near Mina Clavero is the Museo Polifacético Rocsen, which is one of the more interesting museums I've seen and, as its name promises, has a little bit of everything.

We went by local bus to Alta Garcia from Córdoba, and really enjoyed our time there- especially the little Che Guevara museum. But I also remember a nice little park and more Jesuit places. Ask around about the local bus. Wasn't difficult as I recall.

Our friend there said that La Cumbre and Alta Gracia are your best bets.
