As of a few years ago, no longer do HP climbers up at 4 am for HP tickets. Now they need to buy a combo ticket in advance, with one of two start times for the HP trail. One also pays extra for MP Mountain. The hike to Sun Gate is still free.

wow, I am really glad I already did MP then, mlgb! I like the change for HP.... an unnecessary degree of work to wake up at 4 am and get in a big line and not even make the cut!

I found out this website, info about Machu Picchu
http://mythicaltrailsperu.com/inform...achupicchu.htm Good Luck! |
Ok, hiking difficulty aside, which mountain has a better view? I have only one day in MP and definitely can't climb both mountains. I'm not worry how much time it takes, I just want to make the best use of my day. Can someone describe the difference between the views of these two mountains? Thanks!
PS: And if I take the Montana trail starting late morning, will I still be able to catch the last train to Cusco that evening? |
Huayna Picchu view:
http://travel.nationalgeographic.com...icchu/secrets/ Machu Picchu Mountain View: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...1901733%29.jpg http://www.buckettripper.com/climbin...ntain-in-peru/ ------ It's personal preferences. I prefer the view from Picchu Mountain. Of course the "right" lighting will make any view look good regardless. |
Is that possible climbing both in one day?

I suppose it is possibly if you are physically strong enough for it, but it won't leave you much time to enjoy the hike and stopping to admire the views. I have only done Machu Picchu Montana, not Huayna Picchu, and the round trip took about 4 hours. We took plenty of time to enjoy the gorgeous scenery, including an extended break at the top.
