How to see Lake Titicaca
We have 1 full day at Lake Titicaca next week on July 2. We're staying at the Libertador hotel near Puno. It appears that taking a tour on a high speed boat is the best way to see the highlights of the Peru side of the lake, is that correct? [Something like this tour perhaps? http://www.edgaradventures.com/en/pr...ed-boat#price]
Is this something we should book NOW or can we just wait until we arrive in Puno the day before? Is there a tour company someone specifically recommends? Or given our time constraints and the fact that we'll be there so soon, should we just book when we get to our hotel, through our hotel, which apparently has a boat dock? (We depart the US tomorrow 6/26 for Peru so I'm really behind on this.) Many thanks! |
That is not the "standard" tour so I would book ahead. Are you in good enough condition (and acclimated to altitude) to be able to do the hike?
Edgar and All Ways are the two most often recommended agencies. |
What's the standard tour?
I think (hope) we should be fine - we'll be in Cusco for 4 days prior to Lake Titicaca and are both 30, athletic, and in very good shape (lift and run 4-6 times/wk). |
Okay, being young and fit has nothing to do with how well you adjust to altitude. Being in Cusco for 4 days does!
The more typical touristy tours would be this itinerary http://titicacaperu.com/classic_uros_taquile.html |
Update: we went with the Classic Uros-Taquile trip with All Ways Travel recommended above by mlgb. Thanks for the suggestion! Great tour, wonderful and insightful day on the lake!

Glad it worked out, Imschmale. Sounds like you had a great trip.
