How much time should I allow for Ollantaytambo and Cusco?
I want to divide my time staying in both Ollantaytambo and Cusco for touring and Hiking. How much time would be reasonable for each place to really do it justice.
Thanks! |
I am planning about 3 days each for my trip next month.

www.apulodge.com made a nice SV base for hiking MP visit for me 3-4 days there then 3-4 days at Cusco 11000 ft www.rumipunku.com www.casa-andina.com Classic |
I like the idea of 3 days in each minimum plus the time at MP. When you get to SV you will wish you had weeks, though.

I am leaving 2 unbooked unplanned days after Cusco just in case, mlgb. I figured I can go back and spend more time somewhere or decide by then to head to Lake Titicaca or wherever. A little big of adventure and unknown....

We spent about 6 weeks in the area in 2008 and loved it. I would return in a heartbeat! 3 days in each sounds perfect but it really depends on your preference for town v country and nature v culture. A histlestop tour of the sacred Valley can be done in a day but it is much better to take your time. You could easily spend at least a day exploring Olly itself. Chinchero, Maras Salineras and Moray and the surrounding countryside another day. Pisac could be visited en route between the two towns and need at least half a day.
Cusco is a great palce for museums, architecture food culture etc. as well as just walking around but it is obviously a lot busier that Olly. Have fun it is a great part of the world. If you have the time, like ncounty, consider travelling to Titicaca, it really is spectacular. We used the Inka Express bus which stops off at places of interest along the way - well worth the extra bus fare. Do take care re acclimatisation. Cusco is high but Puno is higher still and it may take a little time to get used to the additional altitude.
