How Much Time at Machu Picchu?

Jump to last reply

My husband and I are arranging a trip to hike the Inca trail in June. We are on the fence about how many days to spend at Machu Picchu. Originally, we planned to spend one night there after our hike so that we would have time to rest, see Machu Picchu, climb Huanya Picchu, and visit the Inca bridge. We now have to cut one day out of our itinerary, so we're trying to decide if the extra day at Machu Picchu is necessary. Since we're dedicating four days of the trip to hiking there, we don't want to miss anything. But, at the same time, we don't know if it's worth cutting out another part of the trip, since so many itineraries just include one day there anyway.

Does anyone have any insight or suggestions? Is it difficult to get passes for Huanya Picchu if you are just coming off the trail in the morning? How long did you spend visiting the area? Do you feel that one day is enough?

Thanks for your help!
