Hotel in Manaus Brazil
We are starting a cruise from Manaus, and will be arriving one day prior to the cruise. However, we arrive late at night and then leaving the next morning. What would you sugges? Could you please suggest a good hotel to stay the night before the cruise? Thank you so much. Jan

We stayed at Tropical Manaus which is where all the air crew stay so they function very well for late night and early morning arrivals and departures. The breakfast is amazing. It is closer to the airport and slightly out of town.

We cruised up the Amazon and stayed in Manaus for a few days. The answer to which hotel depends on the kind of experience you are looking for. Manaus is a gritty city with the never ending hustle and bustle of a port. Loads of people, lots of atmosphere, noisy, dirty. Certainly, this is a novel experience. On the other hand, Tropical is outside the city in a quiet, tranquil area. It is more like a resort, than a typical hotel. There is a nice little shopping area for traditional gifts and lovely outdoor seating for a quiet drink at sunset.

Manaus is, to use the vernacular, a craphole. Apart from the Teatro, there's not a great deal to see in the centre of town.
The Tropical probably is the best hotel available but frankly Ponta Negra doesn't have a great deal to recommend it either, unless your tastes run to cheap tourist tat and t-shirts or endless barracas with bad forro music blaring out. |
Both "Talissa 2" hotel about 8 km from the airport (fast internet, small, business hotel, so not for seeing downtown) and downtown the new "Go Inn" were both good options in Manaus that I recently tested and found both just fine.
the "Park Suites Hotel" located at Ponta Negra, overlooking the mighty Rio Negro, is a more upscale (but not sky high priced) hotel that is quite nice--part of the Atlantic Hotels chain in Brazil. As the www.amazontreeclimbing.com guys, led by Eduardo, about these comments--they can book for you and are extremely helpful. Charles Munn, PhD |
