Hiring a driver - Quito
 

Does anyone have any suggestions for hiring a private driver to take a day trip out of Quito? I'm thinking a guide isn't really what is needed as much as plain transportation is. I'm not a fan of buses although the price sure does look nice! Thank you.

Depending on what you want to do outside the city, a guide can actually be handy because he/she will provide information. We just got back from our time in Quito. On two of our days, we did all-day trips, one north to Otovalo and other towns, and one south to Cotopaxi and a rose farm. On those days, we traveled with Lincoln Guaman, who provided the transportation as well as the guide services. Very personable and great sense of humor, and very informative. eenusa and felix - What was the cost? Did yo pay for lunch for the driver as well?

Kenav - I responded re: cost on a separate thread. Yes, we paid for Lincoln's lunch ... he wasn't expecting us to, but we enjoyed his company and invited him to dine with us both days. Had the day not been drizzly the first day, Lake Cuicocha would have made a great spot for a picnic (pick up some things to eat from the Otavalo market).
