Help- choosing destinations in Brazil
 

Hi There

Me and my Husband would like to plan a 3 week trip to Brazil. We have been recommended a number of locations. The ones we definitely would like to cover are the amazon forest and the iguzu falls. We have also been reccommended Rio and Buzios and then a variety of destinations down south (Florianoplis, Caravia and Lencois) and a variey of locations up north (bahia, Jerricoacoara and Fernando de Noronha).

Can someone who has been to a few of these locations perhaps help and tell us where to go and how to plan it with internal flights etc.

4 days in the Amazon Florest: there are some very interesting jungle lodges 2 hours from Manaus (Amazonas state capital). The hotel will pick you up at the airport.

4 days in Lençois Maranhenses: the most impressive sand dunes on Earth not in a desert, 3 hours from São Luís (Maranhão state capital). The hotel will pick you up at the airport. Best time to visit: April to May.

4 days in Rio. I suggest Windsor Hotel at Barra beach.

4 days in Ilhabela at DPNY Hotel, a beautiful island 3 hours from São Paulo. You can take a bus or rent a car from SP (download Brazil's Navteq map to a Garmin GPS or use Waze on Android or iPhone). Avoid holidays and winter (June to August).

4 days in Foz do Iguaçu. Stay in the Brazilian side and visit the Argentinian side. Avoid the winter and the dry season, from May to September.

Hello, my suggest is to split in two legs trip and came in two different times because Brazil is a very large Country and the internal flights are expensive. e.g. First one could be to North and Northeast (Amazon region and Bahia) and the other one to Buzios, Iguaçu falls and Florianópolis.

VidaNaPria what would you suggest we do if we have 3 weeks and this is our first and probably last trip for a while to brazil ? Do you agree to split the trip and focus on either the north or the south ? And if so which what would you suggest for a great trip of the north or separately the south? We want hiking and beautiful beaches and alot of nature

I too am doing brazil for 2 weeks; I travel fast tho! I am doing rio for 3 days, buzios for 3, ilha grande for 3, then fly to iguiza falls for 3 days. I am torn though if I should go then to the pantanel, or manus amazon. I could also do the amazon in peru if its better; any suggestions?

In the north-east there is a lot to see, ranging from nature (in Bahia only already 280 beaches, Chapada Diamantina National Park) over a colourful colonial history to a tasty etno gastronomy.

The best beaches is Brazil are in Fernando de Noronha. It is a little hard to get there, but it worths it. The easiest way to go is taking an airplane from Recife. Pousada do Ze Maria is a nice place to stay and/or eat. If you don´t stay there, try at least to have dinner.

Jericoacara is also very nice and a little hard to get there. You need to take a plane to Fortaleza and then get a transfer to Jericoacara. It possible to make almost the entire trip driving on the beach.

Foz do Iguacu is also nice, but two days are enough: one for the Brazilian side, another one for the Argentinian one.

Rio de Janeiro is one of the best places to visit in Brazil. Buzios is two hours from Rio and definitly worth to go, but I recommend a day tour, don't need to stay more than that.
Also, Ilha Grande (a big island in south of Rio) is a nice place to stay 2 or 3 days. After that, I would go to the south region, as Florianopolis or to the North, as Porto de Galinhas e Fernando de Noronha. But, you have to choose one of those places, don't try to see everytnhig because you might don't see anything.
