Help! Brazil in Nov/Dec. Where to start?
 

Hi All,

My Boyfriend and I are looking to go to Brazil in late 2009. We only have 2 weeks, so we will have to be choosy about what we see and where we go. I'm looking for suggestions on must sees in Brazil and suggestions on a 14/15 day itinerary would be great.

We went to Rio for a week in November 2007. Amazing city but unfortunately the weather is pretty rainy that time of year. We visited Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf, the botanical gardens, and did lots of neighborhood hopping. I definitely recommend spending at least one night in Lapa for samba dancing! The beach is awesome--get it in whenever the sun comes out!

My favorite hotels/pousadas to stay are Pontas dos Ganchos outside of Florianopolis, Pousada Maravilha on the island of Fernando de Noronha, Convento do Carmo in Salvador da Bahia, and Pousada Etnia in Trancoso. But of course it all depends on your budget - these are all high end hotels, but worth it if you can afford it.
For less expensive options, Praia Ipanema Hotel in Rio, Hotel Casa do Amarelindo in Salvador, Anima Hotel on Tinhare Island - Morro de Sao Paulo, Abracadabra in Buzios just to name a few.

My fiance' and I visited Brazil in Nov. 08. We found it extremely crowded, noisy and fairly expensive. She is Brazilian and felt the same. We are older (52 & 66) although quite adventuresom. We did the Christ statue but within 5 minutes it was covered in fog and yes they had a lot of rain, some so severe that it closed down parts of Rio. The traffic is horrendous. I've warned others about some of the more dubious practices in Brazil concerning the hotels and such and if interested you can PM me.

What are some of your interests? I can begin to make recommendations and suggestions once this has been posted.

Rio de janeiro is my most favorite city in this world of ours, and I have been to many after being fortunate enough to have been in six continents (lived in two) during the past 30 years. ...been to Rio 6X's in seven years and plan to return in October of 2009.

Because my memory is not the longest now-- I can't conquer the learning of Brazilian Portuguese.
