Has anyone purchased tix from Star Peru recently?

I am trying to purchase a ticket for my nephew to fly Lima to Cusco to Puerto Maldonado to Lima. I searched flyer talk (?) for suggestions. It came back with trying trafico peru or despegar.com.

My first attempt with despegar came back with $494, that got cancelled and I had to call them (with help from a colleague who speaks Spanish). Because I am not a resident of Peru, they quoted $715. From everyhing I'd read, Star Peru didn't charge an additional fee for non residents. Have they changed their policy?

Trafico Peru came back with a slighly lower price if I sent a check via Western Union and only a $10 difference between Lan and Star Peru. Am I doing something wrong?
My next attempt will be to contact a travel agency. Any advise?

www.starperu.com
You can price out the itinerary yourself.

I did try star peru, but they don' have multidestination tickets. I have written them to see if I just buy two sets of tickets.

You can price one way legs.

I managed to purchase the tickets at the Star Peru site. Still waiting for confirmation, tho. Got all 3 legs for $408--seems like a bargain compared to other quotes I got!

For anyone interested, below is the information I got back from Star Peru regarding how to purchase tickets.

We don't have an option for multi tickets, so you have to buy your tickets
one by one using your credit card. As your credit card is from another
country, usually in these cases the system just takes US$ 15.00 per
passenger and flight to hold the reservation (that's not an extra charge,
it's part of the total amount of your ticket). After that, when you are here
in Perú, you can pay the rest of the tickets at our sales counter in the
airport, it works 24/7 for this kind of cases, using your credit card or
cash.

If the system gives you a code of six letters you can send it by this way an
I`ll confirm the reservation by the system.

Jackie, we have been researching our trip for next Spring & found all of the flights high but called Lan since they had an Airpass. They said you had to purchase an international ticket from either Lan, American or United in order to use it but their inter Peru fare was around $125 for our itinerary(Lima/CUZ/Puerto Maldonado/CUZ/Lima). They don't seem to charge the tourist tax on the Airpass. Let me know how your trip goes.

For your whole itinerary? Or per leg?

Idahospud Aug 20th, 2011 04:36 PM

It was about $125 per leg which was much cheaper than any of the others.

I got the star peru tix for my nephew who is arriving in Lima via an airline not affiliated with Lan, so that pass wasn't an option. The cost of each leg was $134 Lima to Cusco, $134 Cusco to Puerto Maldonado and $140 PM to Lima.

I am flying American/Lan and found that to be the best option.
