Gifts for host family

Our guided tour includes a one-time meal at a BsAs private home. The tour company has some suggestions for gifts we may bring to the host family, however I find their suggestions a little "silly" - how many post cards from the States or pictures of our families do these families care to receive?

I will appreciate some ideas of what would be easy to pack, and be well received?
Tee shirts have been suggested....any thing else?

Thanks!

any type of linens or towels.. for a meal I'd suggest a NICE set of kitchen towels (and oven mitts). Linens and towels are generally not made of as nice, plush fabrics as you'll find in the USA (or when you find them, they're very expensive).. so they're well received in Argentina.

Do some nice solid color or simple design terry kitchen towels (nicely absorbent, not the dollar store ones with the tacky prints) and a pair of oven mitts -- and you've got an easy to bring gift!

Someone once brought me an entire album of their family photos taken over the previous 18 years as a present. Do not do that.
I agree on the kitchen gear or the chocolates. No Reese's peanut butter cups, they are an acquired taste. A nice box of chocolates. Colourful table mats and/or napkins are good too, in case the lady of the house does not actually cook. You can get these things in Argentina but the designs and quality are not the same.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! Kitchen linens sound like a good idea.

Just one question about the chocolate suggestions. Are you suggesting we bring them from the USA? Since Bariloche is known for the chocolates shops, would it be a good idea to get them there? After all, we'll be in Bariloche before reaching BsAs. Is there a particular brand or kind that is a favorite of Portenos?

Huentetu: Thanks for the laugh (the picture album!) LMAO :-)

Porteños who travel to Bariloche buy chocolate as gifts for their family or friends all the time, so it certainly would be a good idea.
