GALAPAGOS ISLANDS NEW FLIGHTS BEGINNING IN SEPTEMBER 2010
There is going to be a new player in the market for flights to the Galapagos Islands. Beginning in September LAN Ecuador which is owned by LAN Chile will begin a daily flight to Baltra from Quito and Guayaquil. This will put the total number companies providing transportation to the islands.
There is a very good possibility that LAN Ecuador will have so very good pricing as when they entered the domestic market previously for Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca. ECUADOR TRAVEL ADVISORY http://www.ecuadortraveladvisory.com...os_Islands.htm |
That is good news. I'd like to think airfares will come down, but I'd be very surprised if they do. Maybe that's a good thing. I think Ecuador wants to keep trips to the Galapagos somewhat exclusive and not let the islands become overrun.

Be VERY careful booking LAN
IN Peru and Chile they charge tourists 3-5X what locals pay. A very dysethical airline with a not great safety record. Due to discriminatory policies against tourists Transport of last resort for me in SA. |
LAN's safety record is fine. It's no different than most U.S. and European airlines. I think that statement is unfair.
They do have a record of charging higher prices to foreigners for domestic flights, but that's exactly what TAME and Aerogal, Ecuador's other airlines, do with their Galapagos flights too. |
Again Qwovadis - do you have a source stating LAN has a "not great safety record"?
